24/7 Fire Protection
Midway Fire District provides fire protection "around the clock" to residents within the 32563 zip code, as well as providing mutual aid to Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Navarre Beach, Pensacola Beach, and Avalon-Mulat areas. Midway Fire District staffs a total of 26 Operational personnel on three 24 hour shifts located at 2 fire stations.
Personnel are required to be State of Florida certified Firefighter 2 and Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic, and most are certified as Hazardous Materials Technicians. Personnel are also required to complete 80 hours in apparatus operations and fire service hydraulics training within their first 12 months of employment.
Personnel assigned to operations work a shift schedule consisting of 48 hours on duty and 96 hours off duty.
Midway Fire District has crossed trained Firefighter/Paramedics that serve in a dual role capacity. Firefighter/Paramedics and Firefighter/EMT's work in a team concept providing initial stabilization to patients prior to transport. Emphasis is placed on good airway management, pain control, and initial stabilization of medical patients.
Very often, our crews are able to perform the initial assessment and treatment of a patient prior to the arrival of a transport ambulance. Once on scene, ambulance Paramedics and our Firefighter/Paramedics continue the joint treatment of the patient.
Midway Fire District utilizes state of the art rescue equipment to mitigate various rescue emergencies including motor vehicle accidents, rope rescue, confined space, and machinery extrication. The District also utilizes a 19ft Boston Whaler for quick deployment for water rescues.
